Wonderful day

Sorry I've been away for so long.  I guess I just let day to day life get in the way of keeping up with a blog.  It has been so much easier just to put all my photos on Facebook.  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/pages/Jacksonville-FL/Mixon-Photography/277761955797
Today I was given the chance to practice some on my photo taking abilities.  I've realized that I need to get back in for my vision because it is taking away from my photos at the moment.  They have an edge to them, and no, I don't mean a good edge either.  But overall, I had some of my best shots of an actual person.  I was so proud of myself.  As I was taking the photos, I was getting more and more excited about the shoot.  And I think my subject felt that excitement too.  My main challenge is getting over that  hump of not feeling comfortable with people I don't know so well.  With my subject for today, I know her well and I can totally be myself and not scare her off.  With new clients, that may not be so easy for me to do.

Anyways, I hope you will view the link to view my photos.

Thank you,
Shawna!

So much to still learn

I'm out here trying to make a living, but yet I have family members and friends who I feel in their own ways hope that I will give them what I have to pay for, for free.  I do enjoy what I'm doing, but in order to do what I'm doing, I've got to pay for the equipment and so much more.  It is crazy.  It is one thing when we are trading services, such as a friend cut my entire families hair, and so therefore I'm doing their family photos free of charge...but others need to pay.  I'm even offering discounts to do so, but they say that it is still to much.  CRAZY! Oh well I've yet to learn what will be right and what isn't...Amongst other things.

Weddings and more!

I've got plans for a wedding in the future. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.  More excited right now than nervous, but as time gets closer, I may become more nervous.  A good friend of mine has asked for me to do her photo's for her upcoming summer wedding.  I'm excited to jump at the chance and to get the experience.  My problem is that this is my first wedding and I'm lacking experience but she doesn't want to hire anyone else.  So I hope and pray that I don't screw it up.  The above picture is a picture I done of one of her bouquet's that my mother made for her.  I have told my mom we need to go into business together because she can do the flowers no matter what the mix is and make them look amazing! And I am able to do the photography! But at least I'm gaining some knowledge and hopefully between now and June, I'm able to get more photography equipment to go with me so I am fully prepared!  Again, I'm still learning as to what is best so pray for me that I don't screw it up!

Our Past in our future

I was able to go out to my aunts house this weekend and she has lots of antique stuff in her yard.  I truly enjoy older stuff from our past.  It has a story to tell if only they could talk.  Maybe if they could at least tell a part of their history, we would know the people who used the items.

Once we have warmer weather I would love to go out and do more there in Salina, Oklahoma.  Also there in the nearby town itself is older buildings that would be great photo opportunities with people.

Snow and Ice

A day outside is always fun for taking pics.  Especially with snow and ice.  That has been the great thing about the cold icy snow.  I've enjoyed being out and getting some shots of the snowy creeks which are now turned to solid ice or like the picture below turned into ice cycles.  The shot above is from out of my parents horse barn.  Thought it was pretty cool. :) Still getting use to my camera.  Hopefully soon I will be able to get some outdoor shots of my kids all at once and enjoy them rather than a shot here and there of each of them individually.  Anyways, not much else going on around here these days...ta ta for now.

In Oklahoma

So I finally was able to make it back home to Oklahoma.  Not sure of how long I will be here, but I hope that I will be able to get some photography in in the process of being here.  I know I have a couple friends here that are wanting me to do some shots and I look forward to doing them.  I was able to get out and take a few on Christmas day of my kids, but mostly of my youngest daughter since she loves to be photographed.  Snow is a tricky one to shoot in after being in nothing but rain and sunshine.  Snow is new to me in the photography sense. Well that is all for now until I'm able to get out more....probably won't be until after the first for me to get some shots in.

Crappy Weather turned great....

Well that photo shoot I was suppose to do on the 13th ended up getting canceled.  Sucks because I was looking forward to it.  But there was suppose to be thunder shower's moving in and hitting about the time I was to take the pictures.  But of course we canceled and the day was beautiful.  Guess we should have just tried anyways and took our chances.  But to late now.

On a good note, I do have other shoots starting to come into place once I'm in Oklahoma.  So I'm looking forward to the possible experiences there. :) I am thankful that my life has been truly blessed with the skills I have and the once I will obtain with practice and experiences..

Well, that is all there is for now.
